Originally, Lourmarin was a small town which developed around two Benedictine monasteries. Nowadays it is a peaceful and calm village, set in green and lush surroundings, nestling at the foot of the Luberon hills. Devastated by pillaging and plague in the fourteenth century, the local seigneur invited a number of families from the Vaud region of Switzerland to the village in 1470 – they farmed the land and repopulated the deserted region.
